THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN
The Kingdom Focused Church, by Gene Mims, is a great book. As I read this book I
was reminded of the importance Jesus places on the Kingdom of God or Kingdom of
Heaven in His teaching and preaching. Let me quote from the introduction;
“…the kingdom of God is not a necessary ingredient to add to other things. It is
THE NECESSARY INGREDIENT to which we add the Great Commission, evangelism,
discipleship, fellowship, ministry and worship. All the good things we do in
church make sense only in light of the kingdom of God.” Mims also says, “We
should agree that a church is a kingdom community of believers gathered locally
in dynamic fellowship under Christ’s lordship.”
In light of the importance of the “Kingdom” in Jesus’ own words, I decided to
develop and preach a series of messages calling our people to focus our
attention, once again, on the importance of “Kingdom Building.” If we are
serious about building the Kingdom of God, we will focus less on our personal
preferences for music styles, less on our preferences for preaching styles;
basically less on ourselves and more on Jesus.
The following messages are not intended to be an exhaustive study on the
subject, but serve as catalysts to whet your appetite to delve more deeply into
God’s Word on the subject. May God bless you richly as you read and study.
