ONE KINGDOM...UNDER
GOD
|
Read Matthew 3:1-2; 4:12-17
Notice that John the Baptizer and Jesus the Messiah used the same phraseology as they spoke of the need
of mankind to repent from sin and the relationship God desires with us in a kingdom setting.
|
Notice the first phrase of this verse says that we are to...
- Repent...
- Consider with me what is implied in this word, repentance.
- First: A deep sense of the evil associated with sin. (Psalm 51:4)
- The sin was so deeply realized in his heart that David began to understand that, even though the sin did include the
most serious of offenses against Uriah and his family, it was first and foremost offensive to the Master of truth
and righteousness, God Himself.
- All sins are primarily and mainly against God
.
- Second: A sorrow for that sin that causes one to turn from sin to trust Jesus as Savior. (II Corinthians 7:8-10)
- It is not mere grief; it is not sorrow that produces gloom, or despair.
- You quit all that is ungodly and turn to live for the Lord. Why? Because you know that your sin is what crucified Jesus,
and you hate it.
- Thirdly: Commitment to live a life surrendered to the Lordship of Christ. (Matthew 16:24-26) The point here is that when
one has turned from a life of sin there is only one other life to live, that of commitment to Christ.
- A good way to say this is that repentance means to turn from something (sin and self) and turn to someone (Jesus the Savior from sin).
- You may buy discount auto parts / gasoline / antibiotics / etc. and those things are wonderful. But, there are no discounts in salvation.
Notice the last phrase of this verse...
- ...the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

There can be no doubt that there is reference in the words to the condition of things in heaven after this life. But the church of God is a
preparatory state to that beyond the grave-a state in which Christ pre-eminently rules and reigns and there is no doubt that the phrases
sometimes refer to the state of things in the church; and that they may refer, therefore, to the state of things which the Messiah was to
set up during his spiritual reign begun in the church on earth and completed in heaven. The expectation of a kingdom was not uncommon to the
Jewish people and was taken from the Old Testament, and especially from Daniel. I want to read a passage from Daniel that will help us see
the picture as the Jewish people of old saw it.
Passage: Daniel 7:13-28   Background Information:
This is a record of the night visions of Daniel in which he saw four beasts rising from the sea to rule and reign in terror among the peoples of earth
until their time was taken away and God sets up His final and fulfilling rule and reign among and for His saints for eternity. As we read, we pick
up the visions at the time of the coming of the Son of Man. Then we see the interpretations of the visions.
Read: Daniel 7:13-28
In verse 25 the beast is speaking such vile vomiting against God as to do everything he can to denigrate and defame the name of God in all the earth.
Matthew Henry says in his commentary:
The design of Satan has been to wear out the saints of the Most High, that they may be no more in remembrance; but the attempt
is vain, for while the world stands God will have a church in it. He shall think to change times and laws, to abolish all the ordinances and institutions
of religion, and to bring every body to say and do just as he would have them. He shall trample upon laws and customs, human and divine. He pulls
down, he builds, he changes… as if he meant to alter even the ordinances of heaven themselves.
But look at verse 27.
I want to be in that one, and by the grace of God given to me in salvation, I will be! Will you? There is nothing any more important than this!
We cannot possibly cover all the information regarding the Kingdom of Heaven. But I can tell you that the only way to enter God’s
Kingdom is bygrace through faith, while you are here on this earth.
Note two passages with me.
    Ephesians 2:8-9. Hebrews 9:27.
Notice that, in the Hebrews passage, God did not say, “you die once and then have another opportunity to hear the gospel and believe.” No, He said that judgment comes.
Folks, thank God for His mercy and grace to us. “For god so loved the world…”
How about you? Have you repented from your sin, placing your faith in Jesus? There won’t be, in the Kingdom, those who
refuse to repent.
Before we close, someone might ask, “Do I have to repent for salvation every time I sin for the rest of my life?” No, but we
do come back for repentance and restoration of a close relationship with Christ when we have sinned. I John 2:1-2.
Have you repented from your sin, placing your faith in Jesus? There won’t be, in the Kingdom, those who refuse to repent.
